Part of it is the packaging, but even after the patch is reverted and
geki3 finds the soundcard, it still gives an error when running with
padsp.

Debian still builds their kernel with snd-pcm-oss module, so they don't
have to use padsp. I'm actually running Debian sid as my main distro and
I just verified sound works fine here after loading snd-pcm-oss...

Do we know if libkxl is still actively maintained by the Debian Games
Team? Conversations about fixing this in Debian have been going on for
several years, and there hasn't been any forward progress made on it.
kxl hasn't been updated since late 2012, and the change from 1.1.7-14 to
1.1.7-16 only a

Anyway, one can get around the "no sound card" error by reverting the
40_nonlinux.diff patch and using padsp. However, that only produce a
