Ok, I know what it is. I ended up reinstalling Ubuntu from scratch, it
worked. Then I installed the updates and then Gnome-Shell, I rebooted,
it no longer worked...I reinstalled, I installed only the updates,
rebooted, it worked, I installed only GDM and rebooted, it no longer

I thought the number was the display number so I checked the man page
and it confirms this. That means that it is normal that I have only
Xorg.0.log since I only use one display/instance of xorg.

I also tried running:
startx -- -logverbose 6
but I still get no errors in the file. I attached the new file in case
it can help.

I am attaching mx xorg logs, as you see there are no errors, it detects
the video card, then it just shuts down gracefully.

So to recap, I tried the following kernel versions:
- 3.16.x
- 3.19.0-31
- 4.2.0-16
- 4.2.0-18
they all do the same.
I set the Intel card to be the default (it is one of those hybrid cards
that can forward 3d accel to an NVidia card).

I also tried the 4.2.0-16 to be complete but it also does not help.

Interestingly I had a 3.16 kernel set as default, so it seems in my case
not to be due to the 4.2 kernel. I tried your version but it does the
same.

Mine is actually one of those hybrid Nvidia/Intel cards now that I think
about it. The Nvidia is active only when 3d is used so in reality it is
probably the Intel card driver having issues, I had forgotten that it
was a hybrid.
I will try the workaround, thanks!

I think there are two bugs maybe, one for the driver not working and one
for xorg not putting any errors in the logs.

I do create this bug, because I have the same bug, but I have a Intel
video card, I do the system works by reseting the system with the kernel
3.19.0-31-generic, without problems, so i think it could be related to
the kernel 4.2 that may not work with some specific video cards.
