The X server input drivers are in flux at the moment, it will stabilise
before Beta, have no fear :-)
What's happening is that your touchpad is being handled by the correct
touchpad driver when it works, but a generic mouse driver when it
doesn't.

Should this upstream work not make it in time, we have our own trivial
patch which I'll upload to Ubuntu this week to provide the functionality
