I get the same problem on the latest Hardy Heron. I am using compiz with
the Human Theme customized. if i click two text files from nautilus,
they open in different windows instead of the same window, two tabs.
really annoying.
a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Ok Sebastien,
1. Customise your window theme so that your window border is the default 'Human'
2. In nautilus click on a text file so that it opens in gedit
3. Go back to nautilus and click again on the same text file. The first gedit
window will get focus and no new copy of the file will be
confirmed, weird that the theme triggers the bug

hi Sebastien, I'm not sure your question was directed to me, but both
clicking on the txt and invoking gedit from cli resulted in the same
issue. The only thing that matters, in my case at least, is the window
border theme.

I've got the same issue. Every opening of a .txt file, for example,
opens a new instance of gedit. Hardy, up-to-date vanilla, AMD64.
I don't think it did this before, at least not two months ago?

Just an update: the issue still occurs with hardy up-to-date.
With many window border themes, gedit will open the same files multiple times.

Hi Guido, thanks for your bug report. I am unable to reproduce this on
an up-to-date Hardy. If I try to open to same file twice via the GUI or
CLI, it just focuses the tab that the file is in, it does not open a new
one anywhere. Do you have a different setting enabled that allows this?

ok, it took me a while, but I managed to reproduce the bug with a
vanilla hardy up-to-date (I did a fresh install): it happens with
several window border themes.
To reproduce: for example change the default Human window border to
Glider and then try to open twice a txt file.
