I have exactly the same problem on Ubuntu 11.04. Nothing happens when I
insert an SD card (and I tried several cards). The syslog is not
responding. I am sure the card reader is not broken, because it still
worked last week in windows before I installed Ubuntu.

Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this
issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release -

There is a driver that used to work (according to

on the PCSCLite package.
I have tried this but realise that PCSCLite have evolved beyond the

I have not enabled some tool for working with media.
In czech it called "Výměnné mechaniky a média"
So SD cards are now working, but Memory stick pro duo and Smart Media cards did
not work.
