[Bug 220072] Re: [Hardy] Internet connection cutting off intermittently

It seems that Ubuntu wasn't the problem after all. I found out that both my service provider and my router has been cutting off my Internet connection. This made the problem hard to diagnose. Marking the report as invalid... ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Invalid -- [Hardy]

If you don't use UPnP you need to have a gateway. I'm not saying you need to set it statically but you need to get one from your DHCP-server. See example attached with a valid setup. ** Attachment added: Screenshot-Connection Information.png

Thomas, I'm sorry that I didn't express myself clearly. I don't know if I use UPnP for my internet connection or not. I only remotely know what UPnP means. My Internet connection might be a heavy user of UPnP, and I wouldn't know. If it's important to know this, could you tell me how to find out?

No no no, I'm using DHCP, which means automatic configuration - the exact opposite to manual configuration. Don't let those greyed out ip- numbers mislead you, they are there just because when I configured my ADSL device, I had to temporarily set a fixed ip address to be able to control the ADSL

I don't know what role UPnP might have in this, but my Internet connection is definitely working (when not cutting off), and the connection method is DHCP. I think when an ADSL connection is made with DHCP, one is always supposed to leave the default gateway blank, I remember doing so for years -
