Title:
Upgrade from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 removes hostname from /etc/hosts
removing gutsy2hardy tag. not closing since it's not clear if later
releases are affected. Having a test case would help determine if we do
indeed have a bug at our hands.

Hi this isn't an issue any more since I only needed to upgrade once.
Haven't upgraded since and will be sticking with 8.04 for a while, but I
will try to remember to look out for this next time I upgrade.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Upgrade from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 removes hostname
These log files only cover 2008-01-01 which I don't imagine was the day
that this happened. Do you have any other log files in '/var/log/dist-
upgrade/' ?

Upgrade from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 removes hostname from /etc/host
I think what I had done to to the /etc/hosts was to remove the
'127.0.1.1 myhostname' entry and change it to '192.168.1.2 myhostname'
since I had a static IP configured. After the upgrade I would have
expected that to be left alone.

This bug was marked as a duplicate, but that appears to be incorrect.
This is a report that the upgrade *broke* the /etc/hosts file, which is
a bug in itself, separate from sudo's behavior when the hostname is not
resolvable.
