I have the same problem in Fedora 8, occurred suddenly after one of the
updates couple weeks ago (unable to trace which one) so this is not
specific to ubuntu only.

Same problem here, Hardy, Gnome desktop. Random loading of http links
to images. Same images used to work fine in Feisty and Gutsy.

I can confirm this behavior. in hardy. gkrellkam is either unable to display
the downloaded images in gkrellm, or only displays them randomly.
This behavior happens in gnome, kde, openbox, xfce, and fluxbox
