Hi,
That shows that you are using the nv driver, which means that
you have an nvidia card.
I don't know what was causing the issue for you, but one possibility
is that you were using the nvidia driver before, and the packages
weren't updated in sync on your system.

Go to system->administrator->screens and graphics. Select the correct
screen type. Afterwards you should be able to set the correct
resolution...
