Nvidia driver not working after upgrade to 8.10.
Dell optiplex 740 with geforce 6150 LE.
I installed the recommend driver 177 and tried all reinstalls suggested above
without success.

The driver is set to autoinstall itself when the kernel is updated
provided that the kernel headers for the new kernel are available.

Like John Yates, I also use the 173.14.12 driver, and I had the same
error when synaptic builds the driver. I also can't run xorg with Driver
"nv", which I've heard works for users of the 177-series driver.

I have tried this, and it has not worked. I only have 177.68 and the
generics in that folder, and have reloaded the kernel 3+ times now. I am
98% certain that this would require something else, since the 3+ times
have not done it, even after multiple restarts.
