Hi everyone,
It is necessary to add the following line so that the xserver uses the
configured Modeline:
Section "Monitor"
...
Option "DDC" "False" # <-- this line
...
EndSection
PS: I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and nvidia driver 96.43.18.

Hi Bryce,
I just update to Lucid - went like dream and everything working (had a small
glitch with cupsd, though).
The xorg-server issue reported in the bug seems solved, but the new splash
screen introduced in Lucid actually displays the exact same problem as the
XWindow did earlier !?

Hi fhusted,
This bug was reported against an earlier version of Ubuntu, can you
test if it still occurs on Lucid?
Please note we also provide technical support for older versions of
Ubuntu, but not in the bug tracker. Instead, to raise the issue through

Anyone know if there's any way around this yet, either through Ubuntu or
the new nvidia driver? I'm using 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10 and nvidia driver
190.42 and I still can't fix my overscan.

I've switched from Feisty to Jaunty and now my xorg.conf settings are
ignored, too.
I have a LCD monitor (DVI) and a Plasma TV (Compsite) but don't know how
I can get a video signal for my TV without xorg.conf.
Here my old xorg.conf from Feisty:

I have this exact problem on a system running intrepid i386. The

I can confirm that modelines in xorg.conf are also ignored in Intrepid
64-bit. I supplied a modeline for my Toshiba 65HM167 but it was
ignored. Real bummer because my TV has a decent bit of overscan that
can't be adjusted on the TV's side, so I need to do it from within
Linux.

Thanks; if you get a chance can you please also test if this occurs with
Intrepid?

Hi fhu,
Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to
your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Yes, that is a nice feature. But my problem is, that I actually supplied

According to the release note, the new Xorg can run without using the
Xorg.conf. Maybe it is your case.
See: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha4
"At the same time this will allow the great majority of users to run without an
"/etc/xorg.conf" file. "
