Great, thanks for letting us know the issue is resolved.
In case it does appear again, radeontool in Jaunty alpha-3* can be used to
assist in debugging this issue. After installing it, you run it like this:
radeontool regmatch '*' regdump_good.txt
radeontool regmatch '*'
This bug was reported in the Intrepid development cycle; removing
regression-potential and marking as regression-release.

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to
your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

FWIW it does the same thing with no xorg.conf and only the laptop LCD
w/o external monitor.

the LCD comes out of it's blinking state if ctrl-alt-del is pressed
while in console, so the shutdown messages are seen clearly.
