I am having this problem in karmic. Never had it on any other version of
Ubuntu.I just like to use mouse to shut off screen saver. Would like to
keep bug open. Ther is no way to get to settings for screensaver.

I tried this today using the jaunty live CD and then the bug doesn't
repro.
I think it's a config issue that I currently got on several machines.
Thus I will close this bug.

I've tried these repro steps both with Busy Spheres and with Blank
screen so that's why I believe it's not a problem with any particular
screensaver but rather with X.org (or maybe some gnome component? but
probably X.org)

I do not have this 'bug' on any of my three laptops nor my three
desktops; which covers 8.04 and 8.10; this leads me to believe we may
have to look deeper. Please attach your X server configuration file
