I booted same machine to XP and symptoms were the same. One sim card
worked and the other not. Turns out I needed to update the modem
firmware (it's an MC8790 on a FS T5010, go the firmware from Fujitsu).
It now works for both cards.

I got latest patches and then updated
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf as suggested.
No luck here. Nothing seems to have changed:

It seems like NM is not waiting long enough for PPPD to fully connect.
Anybody know what NM version (if any) I can revert back to?
