We only install xscreensaver in lucid, so this is "fixed" on our side.
For the naming problem, I think a bug against gnome-screensaver and
xscreensaver should be filed, otherwise nothing will change.

I can confirm that this issue is still active in Lucid. Adding
xscreensaver to Xubuntu Lucid, I now have two "Screensaver " listings in
Applications -> Settings. Since they activate different screensaver
settings, perhaps the names need to be changed to show which screensaver
the settings are for?

Installed Xubuntu 9.04 using jaunty-alternative-i386.iso. Prior to
installation, selected "command-line installation". After installation
completed, installed desktop using "apt-get install xubuntu-desktop".
When the system is rebooted into the GUI, there are two selections for
Applications -> Sett
This is starting from a command-line system, and doing "apt-get install
xubuntu-desktop".
I am currently working around this by using "apt-get install xubuntu-
desktop gnome-screensaver-", going with XScreenSaver (though I don't
know if that is supposed to be the favored one).

Thanks for reporting this bug. Using the final release ISO Xubuntu
Jaunty 9.04, xubuntu-9.04-alternate-i386.iso and xubuntu-9.04
-alternate-amd64.iso I performed fresh installations. Both installations
had a single choice for "Applications -> Settings -> Screensaver".
