Totem could explain why it has disabled the volume control and suggest
where a user might look to resolve the issue. Whether that is a bug
depends on the project manager and the policies for pre-installed system
components. Given that the current state of the Linux audio system is
"a turd pile in
because totem only use gstreamer and 99% of those issues are due to
gstreamer, pulseaudio, alsa, etc

At this time Totem is working on my system. I believe that what happens
is that one of the many sound systems (pulse, esd, alsa, oss) gets
stuffed up, and totem stops working because it happens to use that
interface. It seems like Skype is what usually leads to the messed up
sound system. Rhythm
Sebastian, if you are going to claim that this doesn't seem to be a
totem one, could you either explain why it is not a totem issue, ask the
reporter for more information or assign another package. Just saying
that "the issue doesn't seem to be a totem one" is in no way shape or
form helpful to eit
Only in that there is no way to get any information about why Totem
isn't playing any audio while other applications on the desktop can.
