I can confirm that pulseaudio 0.9.16~test5-0ubuntu2 fixes the problem at least
on my hardware.
Thanks a lot!

Confirming that 1:0.9.16~test5-0ubuntu2 fixed it with

Daniel, how about removing the “Analog Headphones” profile altogether

I have the same problem. No audio when plugging in the headphones. The
internal speakers of my laptop work fine.
None of the suggested workarounds (pavucontrol, alsamixer) has helped.
The headphones remain silent.

[Karmic] No sound with jack output now with PulseAudio 1:0.9.16~test4-0ubuntu1
I still have to use 'alsamixer -c 0' in order to activate the headphones output
with 0.9.16~test4-0ubuntu6.
With PA gnome applet (gnome-volume-control-pulse) I can change the connector to
'Analog Headphones'. But nothing more. I have to select 'Analog Output' and use
'alsamixer -c 0' to unmute.
same problem on acer aspire 4730z no sound through external speakers
(jack). Sound is present in built-in speakers but very low volume. PCM
and headphones turned up fully on alsamixer

1:0.9.16~test4-0ubuntu6 fixed this issue for me. The headphone output is
now available in Sound Preferences.
I wouldn’t mind both the internal speaker output and the headphone jack
output being on by default, though, since the hardware will turn the

I can confirm there are audio problems in Karmic.
I have an HDA Intel ICH8 chipset and the headphone channel is muted
after every reboot. gnome-volume-control's doesn't unmute this channel
if I select headphones as the output. Unfortunately the headphones

I confirm what it's said on this bug #4097887 : "headphone has been muted after
each reboot.".
In fact all all outputs are muted after each reboot but we can easily unmute
the general output with the volume applet (gnome-volume-control-pulse) and not
the headphone output.

I have the mixer for a 'Chip' and 'Card' named 'PulseAudio' with the command "$

But I've found the mixer for the

Thanks for your support Luke.
My hardware list is now like before I think but no sound with jack
output. Sound from speakers is muted when I plug a jack in my soundcard
but I can't hear anything in my headphones or my hifi.
PS : can you confirm the fact that my internal microphone isn't recogniz
Try clearing all pulse related files from your home directory, and
restarting pulseaudio, either by running "pulseaudio -k" in a terminal,
or logging out, and back in again.
