I think this might be fixed, I've not had the blinking white cursor
problem in a while. I still don't have a usplash on boot though, but
that's probably a separate bug.

With all the updates, it won't boot four out of five times now. It's
getting better but still not fixed. Is there anything I should provide?
I also tried with no xorg.conf file at all, but unfortunately that did
not fix the problem. It seems as though this fails before X starts.
