Here is how I fixed the issue:
Edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf as sudo, e.g. sudo gedit
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and change the setting:
options snd-hda-intel power_save=10
to
options snd-hda-intel power_save=0
reboot and see if this solves the problem.

and reboot.

I think it is a feature to save power, the problem become apparent when
you are using headset which results having sharp sounds on every switch
on.
