I've installed the backport too and still have no sound.

I have integrated sound hda-intel but it shows up as realtek acl889a I
installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic and rebooted. I can hear
the sound now but it is reversed and I have a feeling that this bug and
bug #275289 may be somehow connected.

Check if the sound is unmuted (for the speakers, the PCM,...)
It's strange seed69 has got sound with the backport install.
If it doesn't solve post your lspci | grep -i audio

So, I went into the Synaptic pacakge manager, and installed the linux-
backports-modules-alsa-karmin-generic
I still have no sound, and have a dv7 3065dx What else can I do? I
just did a fresh install of 9.10 and am At a loss. I am still VERY new
to this, but would like to get this issue
