Forest, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

I was able to fix this by adding a rootdelay=90 in the kernel line of my
grub config. Seems pretty consistent among all my lucid installs, but
then my hardware is also pretty consistent: Dell M605/SAS6IR
I'd love to be able to preseed this into the grub config on the
target... Suggestions?

Yo
Dimitrios, I don't need a live CD to boot (I can boot normally if I wait
long enough and type exit at the console) and my system is already fully
upgraded.

Forest, if you still have this problem, try this:
- boot from a LiveCD
- mount the root partition, devfs, procfs and sysfs
- chroot into your system
- do an aptitude full-upgrade
That fixed it for me (here's the blog post I wrote about it:

Update:
I uncommented this line from /etc/default/grub:
GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true
My system now tries to boot from /dev/sda1 instead of from a uuid device
file. Sadly, it doesn't fix this bug.
