'Front Mic' refers to the *external* mic jack, not the built-in one.
What are the contents of the codec dump (/proc/asound/card0/codec#0)
after adjusting 'Mic' (and boost) settings?

After installing latest ALSA drivers the problem is still there.
The only effect I see is that Front Mic Boost was renamed in Internal
Mic Boost in alsamixer. But turning boot on it produces noise only.
