No report from the original poster. I think we can assume that this case
is rare, and not reproducible. There are no other duplicates of this
bug. So I think it is safe to lower the priority, until we get more
evidences that the problem is still present.

Or wait - it was not error code 74, it was *block* 74. The Xapian code
converts the error code it get's to a string and that message is "Errore
di input/output". So you get an IO error when reading the S-C index.

So this looks like a Xapian::DatabaseError being thrown from deep inside
the guts of Xapian. It could indicate that the software-center's Xapian
index is corrupted. The error code raised from the read call is 74 which
is EBADMSG "Not a data message"; whatever that tells us :-)
