Hey johnnyp-ntlworld, You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade and re-test if this issue is still present there. If it's solved

I insist on saying that it's not the nvidia graphics that bug but the plymouth display parser (vesafb or wtvr it uses) bc even gallium has issues rendering the splash On Tue, Sep 20, 2011 at 8:00 PM, Steve Langasek steve.langa...@canonical.com wrote: Since this is reported to affect boot

Since this is reported to affect boot whether configured to use the text or graphical splash, it doesn't appear to be a plymouth bug, but a bug with the nvidia drivers as described. Reassigning. ** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug

I fixed this problem by booting with a grub 2 disk. I changed the grub 2 command line to vga=normal. I removed quiet and splash to skip the unviewable boot splash. This allows the garbled characters to be seen. I have an hvr-1600 card in the box so I guess it is still subject to the boot

I also have 7300 LE and get the exact same screen on boot up of a new installation. I also get it if I move a working install on a 6200 nvidia from a system with a flat panel monitor to an old analog vga monitor. It would seem to be the nvidia X driver. -- You received this bug notification

This does the same for me with Geforce 7300 LE. Also the console (Ctrl+Alt+F1-7) is similarly corrupted. So I think it maybe a nvidia driver issue, rather Plymouth. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu.
