I'm having the same issue on 10.04, and Magnus Lidbom's solution

There is a workaround. Run:
xmodmap -e keysym Alt_L = Alt_L
xmodmap -e keysym Alt_R = Alt_R
before starting rdesktop.

I've found another workaround.
Make sure you press Alt, then shift.
I've been experimenting a bit with xev, and apparently it's only if you
hit shift and then alt that X translates the Alt_L to Meta_L. If you
hit Alt_L first it works as expected.

I'm on 9.04 now too and tried to use rdesktop while teaching (test
driven development), and boy did I had to give up shortcuts in Eclipse
(mainly Shift+Alt+X, T - run tests). :P
Is there anything I could do to help any developer out in finding a

I can confirm that Shift+Alt+anything doesn't work with 8.04 (LTS). In my
everyday work this prevents me from using all refactor commands in Eclipse
(such as rename, shift-alt-r) and all quick execution (shift-alt-x, t to run
unit tests).
Alt+key works.
Shift+key works.
Ctrl+Shift+key works.

Currently, I use Intrepid (8.10, current development) on my system and
have no means of checking the reported behavior against earlier versions
of Ubuntu.
Anyway, with rdesktop 1.6.0 and tsclient 0.150 I can use only Ctrl+Shift

Thank you for doing your part to make Ubuntu better. Since this bug was
originally reported against Edgy Eft(6.10), I was wondering if this
can still be reproduced on a supported version of Ubuntu?
Thanks,
~ Mike
