It's nothing to do with gconf or gtk2-engines. The issue is that we
don't have a gtk3 theme yet. That is currently being worked on. In the
meantime, you can change your theme to the GNOME default (Adwaita) using
dconf-editor. You need gnome-themes-standard installed for that though
