I'm having the same issue on Kubuntu 11.04 Natty 64b, installed from the
alternate CD.
On starting Gimp from the menu or terminal, it segfault after the message:
(gimp:12649): GLib-WARNING **:

After installing libgtk2.0-0-dbg and libglib2.0-0-dbg I get a different
backtrace:
