That doesn't seem right to me. (What can cause this?)
That could certainly be related to the console being in the wrong state.
I guess I'll have to look elsewhere to find why those
This error is in general caused by some other software setting the
console in an incorrect state. It's not an X bug, but a bug in
something else which has changed X's console underneath it.
Did you install any extra packages besides the defaults when installing
this system? Can you provide a
I've added some extra packages after the install. Listed in the file

You have a significant number of server packages installed. It is
likely that one or more of these is handling the console inappropriately
at boot time.

mysql-server-5.1
postgresql-common

I recommend that you try disabling each of these services in turn and

sudo bum and starting the service, I see some messages from bum but

This seems to be the same problem as bug 532047.
So the problem is not really fixed?
I've done:
sudo mv /etc/init/plymouth-splash.conf /etc/init/plymouth-splash.conf.disabled
and added the line vt=7 to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf as below.
[SeatDefaults]
greeter-session=unity-greeter
Oh, I should add that I started out with having the same problem with
the login when I used the binary drivers. I then tried to remove them,
but no success, the same error that is reported in this bug.
