Confirmed !. In the 7.04 version have the same problem. it says "could not get
the connection time". I have a v.90 external modem in /dev/ttys0
the Tone dial-up reverts back to Pulse dialing.

I find now that even though I reset the dial method to tone (not pulse),
modem monitor - properties (network-admin) does not remember this. When
dialing, ATDT is changed to ATPT in the appropriate place in
/etc/chatscripts/ppp0 by something.
I now have desktop icons running
DialUp: pppd call

I have the same in 7.04.
Activate and Deactivate are greyed out. The modem is turned on and off by going
instead,
Modem-monitor -> Properties -> Check or uncheck the mod
