dpkg has absolutely nothing to do with this bug report. Reassigning to
xserver-xorg for lack of better option. What video card are you using ?
You should definitely attach some Xorg related logs.

Actually I think it was that the graphics driver was reset, because I
updated it and now I have a better choice of screen resolutions.
