In qpdfview 0.4.17~beta1+git20180709-2, opening from Firefox, pcmanfm- qt, and terminal, all work without problems. Sure, there's the complaint about the icon, but that's not particularly surprising. If you still have the problem, please attach an example PDF file and the specs of your machine.
