Tom Hurst's lp:terminator patch corrects this for me, so I'm hoping to
see that or another fix in the next release version.

This affects me as well on 12.04 and the workaround in bug description works
fine:

If I check ~/.config/terminator/config the keybinding is listed as
Q. I have to manually edit the file to replace Primary -> Ctrl
to fix the keybindings.
