Until today (3/3/09) I was using Intrepid. I plug in my Huawei E169 and
it happily connects and changes to the appropriate DNS for my 3G
provider. In Intrepid I had updates, proposed and backports enabled.
Now I have upgraded to Jaunty and the DNS settings are not updated when
I insert the E169, i
This is triggered by the removal of some udev rules. These rules
however are plain wrong the correct fix is to add the correct acpi
MODALIAS to the floppy driver. This is being attacked as part of the
modprobe.d fixups. This will fix all machines using ACPI.

Reading the Gnome bug there has been a bug but it is fixed in version
trunk as of approx 2009-01. There always is a possibility to backport
that fix to Intrepid but I'm unsure of how that gets done.

The bug is still there. Nobody seems to care about it but: 1) it makes
access to old documents and sources (those filed in floppy disks) almost
impossible. When floppy is connected it is identified as
"CITIZEN_X1DE_USB" after that it is not recognized as a block device.

While testing my fix for this, I noticed that this whole system breaks
in the alternate/server installer as of Intrepid because we use
conv=notrunc and that's disabled in busybox dd. We could remove
conv=notrunc, but that would cause problems for Wubi installations.

Yes. Modules compile into the kernel are always initialized. You can add
these options to the kernel command line in /boot/grub/menu1st.
Check the corresponding man page on how to edit this file and don't forget to
make a backup. The exact options to add are:
