No. It's most likely not a memory issue. It takes about 6 seconds for the
crash. If you launch it from the console it takes a lot longer, because it
prints a massive bunch of these Gobject errors to the console.
While doing all this it eats almost 100% cpu time and only about 5% of my
memory acc

I had a similar issue with a 13.10 live DVD. It was fine until I had a
new SATA 2TB drive, then I could not run or install from the DVD, I just
got busybox and initramfs error and the PC was locked.
I read that this might be a SATA bios issue and the tip was to change
the SATA mode or choose RAID

Hi, this is a long shot but the symptoms are the same. That is, Java
apps that used Global Menus working fine in 13.04 are now broken in
13.10 - the UBUNUTU_MENUPROXY being the same.
The possibly related (or unrelated?) bug was narrowed down to "Native
crash in org.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.OS._gtk
