I have reported enough bugs, and thanks for the advice but that is ALL
I have been doing for the last 3 weeks. I have spent on average 2/3's
of every day of my University school holidays for the last 3 weeks
doing just as you suggested.
Still nothing, I had added details to other bugs, I have
Public bug reported:
I have tried every trick in the book to get a stable system, even tried
swapping hardware, distros, mem, flashing bios, changing kernels, etc,
etc.
Its the same thing; random crashes, all up to date, no response and only
thing that will get it working is a full reset!
I

Again, this time I went for approx 24hrs without a crash.
I have just noticed that a lot of the crashes happen almost immediately
after shutting down transmission bittorrent client.
1) Came back to the machine, screensaver on.
2) Woke the machine up, password and back to desktop
3) Shut down
I have just noticed, by accident (because I had the System Monitor
open!) that just before a crash the duel cores I have seem to steadily
rise in activity, %'s slowly but steadily increasing and then *POP* I
crashed.
After a reboot:
CPU1 = 1.1% with CPU2 = 5.5% (on average)
Opening a program:
Here is a copy of the kern.log file for the above comment

I can now also add leaving rhythembox playing in the task bar for
longer than 1hr as also another reproduction of the error.
I am also finding that just before a crash the internet speed seems to
throttle itself randomly before the machine crashes.

Karmic/ AMD64 --Video/mouse/keyboard
I have tried the kernels that came with the install and found that
2.6.31.14 seemed more stable for longer compared to the default
2.6.31.22 that is shipped with the Ubuntu 9.10 I am using.
Maybe that will help with something. The only other thing I can do is
install the kernel base of 2.6.31.1
Nope, I would have to say that I can reliably recreate this error by the
following means:
Using the inbuilt gnome pdf reader and using the scroll wheel to view
the document using a USB mouse.
Same thing, usb mouse, viewing firefox on a website that is graphic
intensive.
The faster I move the
Not reliable any more. I have had 4 crashes in the last 2hrs with normal
use and Im running out of ideas? Anyone?
Im getting to the point where I am spending more time recovering from
crashes than doing work, please, Im desperate, what else can I do?

Karmic/ AMD64 --Video/mouse/keyboard
This is my bug. I backed the machine back down to 9.10 thinking it
would solve the issue and it appears not to be the case.
Random freeze, screen hash and nothing but a reboot will fix. It seems,
from reading that this is a constant problem?

I have replaced hardware, and still have a problem

Public bug reported:
Have been reading about screen crash solutions and tired them all.
Seems the machine is still running but the screen is raster garbage and
only a reboot will fix.
I have only been able to reproduce this error 3 times now and it goes as

I have to admit, that the outcome I have mentioned here is almost the
same as , and related to this later report.
Previously reported bug # 597934 is related to this latest bug I have
reported. Outcome of screen freeze is the same, yet with this bug
reported here I am able to reproduce as
+1 I would prefer to be able to do this as well.
I would like to know, is this actually a function of the fact to delete
the files manually you have to sudo but the program doesnt run as root
or have those privileges. So when you click clear in the previous
conversations window it vanishes, but
