When I open the sound preferences, I only see a dummy output.

unfortunately i cannot replicate the issue because i'm already on a
clean installation (had to do one since upgrade to 16.10 didn't go so
smoothly). you can mark it as closed if you want, sorry for being so

i see.
ever since this occured, i get "installation failed" message with every update,
though everything updates just fine. what can i do to correct this behaviour ?
should i uninstall / reinstall something ?

I can confirm this on ubuntu 12.04.
When bluetooth headset is connected, the volume is 100%.
In order to be able to control the volume on the bluetooth, I need to go to
sound settings and manually swithc to bluetooth headset in the output section.

when my bluetooth headphones are connected and switched to, the sound starts
playing on the loudest regardles the setting on the volume control. Only when I
change the volume control, it becomes the level it should be regarding the
slider.
This happens on 11.10 but also
