I finally discovered why I couldn't run Creox and practice guitar using
Gtick for a metronome: Gtick is for OSS, and it throws up the error
"Couldn't start metronome. Please check if specified sound device
and sample file are accessible"

I have had issues with jackrack crashing when too many effects are
active or when using experimental effects. Ardour does have built in
effects and they are very nice (LADSPA). You can either add them to a

line that output into Jackrack, and Jackrack's output into
