F18: Fedora icon on gdm replaced by a fuzzy rectangle

Dear Folks, I have installed Fedora 18 on seven machines using yum distro-sync, and am happy with the result. On my son's machine, however, gdm presents a fuzzy rectangular patch instead of the Fedora logo. This is also the case with the icons at the top right of the gdm screen, until you move
