We changed the timeout on the master to be 15 mins less than the timeout on the
firewall.
We found that the oracle folks had to change a timeout for Oracle has the rman
sockets were opened from the client end of things.
We could have changed it on the client side of things.

If I read into your message correctly, your firewall is timing out the
connection while you have a long running client backup? We had that issue
and the solution that worked for us was to increase the timeout on the
firewall. I guess the master/media server setting would work as well.

We have a client behind a firewall and have found technote
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH178712
Which suggest to change the KeepAliveTime to less than the firewall,
the firewall in question have a timeout of 300 seconds
What are others experience with changing this value from the default 2
