Mac aside, even the tivo desktop for PC
doesn’t yield a file ready for editing. It is DRM protected.
DirectShow Dump deals with the .tivo file
extension problem – I’m not sure what the Mac equivalent is:

You might be able to low-tech it and use a USB Video (analog) capture
device... if a direct transfer of the digital file does not work.
