I seemingly successfully upgraded to Mandriva Free 2008.0. The upgrade went
relatively uneventfully but still no luck with X11. This version did do a
better job of recognizing my hardware but to no avail. Here is the output
from 'startx' now:

I recently upgraded to Mandriva to 2007 Free. In the process, something
happened that broke X11. I have tried everything I can thing of but no joy.
It has been very difficult to get any diagnostics because when I try to
startx, the console goes black and neither keyboard nor mouse can do
anything
