You can probably pick up a replacement 6100 for peanuts. I once got 3 in a
lot of 9 Macs for less than $40, and that was over two years ago. They're
probably cheaper now. I've seen them sell on eBay for $1.

IIRC the 7100 uses plasic runners and no sled. I junked one about a year
ago, so I'm pretty sure on that. 8100 and 6100 use sleds, 7100 has runners.
The runners are not unlike runners used in some PC models if memory serves
me correctly.
