What CD titles by Juan Atkins would you consider to be essential? Sofar
I only have Deep Space
under his Model 500 monicker and the MasterMix, but what other titles
are worth checkng out?

Model 500 Classics on RS. i think the title sez it all.

Model 500 Sonic Sunset on RS... assuming the CD is the same as the
vinyl you'll get the long
long version of I Wanna Be There ('bout 15 minutes?)... a must have.

(313) Sony/BMG, what's the difference?

2000-01-17 Thread Otto Koppius
Okay, so we all know what happened with the Sony Jaguar cover
mysteriously going to Bertelsmann/BMG. Now read the following:

In this week's issue (nr. 3) of German mag Der Spiegel, Bertelsmann CEO
Thomas Middelhoff is quoted as saying The takeover of a music firm has
priority. Sony Music and EMI are candidates.

Sony Music or EMI?
Gosh, I wonder which of the two that is going to be...

It's all falling into place now...

Otto

full article (in German though)

I gotta back Rob on this one. The long version is on the CD, so
no worries. Also conatins Neptune, one of my top 313 mood
pieces.

I'd also suggest the Infiniti compilation if you can find it.
Game One is a must.

The only thing for sure if Sony or EMI took over Bertelsmann/BMG is
that quite a lot of roster bands, producers, authors and others from
both companies would be made redundant (as the Brits say). Every
single other such merger has been followed by a reduction in the
artist roster of both labels (in the case of record companies).

That's the thing I dig about Simon Reynolds - I have a pretty

Whaddya think about this paragraph where the mad coiner just
about busts a blood vessel hyphenating shit?

In the tradition of hardcore and jungle before it, London's garage scene
works as a gigantic laboratory, a permutation space where new hyphenated
hybrids and creole micro-genres flicker into life for a few months or even
just weeks, then disappear: speed garage, slow jungle, ska-house, acid
swingbeat, hyper-funk, breakbeat garage, disco-ragga, grunge dub, riddim
  blues, electro-gamelan, divas-in-the-echo-chamber, crack house,
tech-2-step, quiet stormcore, sugarshack breakbeat funk, scrap iron dub,
bleep garage, wildstyle soul, lover's jump-up.

I can just see him with his head in a bassbin, jotting this stuff down on

a notepad. Priceless!

Reynolds is a clever writer. Erm, sometimes too clever by half!

I still think my favorite non-genre of all time is gabba handbag.
It's like they say -- opposites attract!
