yep francois has been around for a long time now, he moved from france to NY
in the early 70's, started drumming with one of those old dj's like walter
gibbons or tee scott back then, started dj'ing himself playing at places like
the garage, etc. he produced a lot of stuff on Prelude and (i think) west
end.. someone mentioned the body music track by the strikers on prelude, i
think he did that. He has been running Axis Studios in NY for ages, Kraftwerk
recorded Electric Cafe there in 85, Juan Atkins did some of his stuff from the
Deep Space LP there too from hazy memory. Francois did a lot of great mixes
including _the_ mix of problems d'lamour by alexander robotnik and of course
the crazy percussive mix of TDF by kraftwerk.. he'd be one of the only guys
from that 70's garage era still around and kicking!

I really love Azimuth. Such a fun album!

I like Dark Comedy a lot too. Its the most minimal thing I've heard from him,
but the album grew on me rather quickly.

Metaphor is his weakest, imo. too jazzy/loungy for my tastes and the melodies
tend to be insipid. but it has some truly inspired/inspiring tracks that still
make it worth hearing.

but Azimuth, ah, such perfect summertime music...

Metaphor is the LP but wasn't Kenny's only other album, it came out in early

under his Dark Comedy pseudonym called '7days' on Elypsia out of Belgium
(Claude Younge and Stacy Pullen the other third wavers also put out albums
for Elypsia). 7 days is a much moodier brooding album, working with less
instrumentation. If you really dig Azimuth definitely check out Metaphor,
though IMHO I don't think they sound anything alike.

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but Kenny played from 1am-3am, and Sean
played form 3am to just after 5am. I have to disagree
with you, though, I thought Kenny played great. It just wasn't all techno. I
have no problem with that.

Well, in Ferndale, I got to see Thomas Barnett rip the needle off French

Derrick was playing, and then see him run off only to have a couple
bouncers chase him! All that within the first 10 mins of DM's set.

That was sweet!

I left like 10 mins after... NyQuil was calling my name.

Hey, Detroittechpeople and other people ho are in to Detroit sound.

I live in Belgium, and it is getting pretty boring finding records. When I
find something I like, the record looks more like a UFO because it is
shipped in such a bad condition. Especially those labels like MONOBOX,
M-plant and Cabinet.
A few years ago I heard a record of fierce ruling diva called: You gotta

If there is someone ho knows a good record store in Belgium that don 't
sell UFO 'S, or where I can order Fierce ruling diva, let mi now.

That's not too surprising, because as far as I know it's pretty hard to
find, being from '93 (?). Your best bet may be to get the vinyl version
Laboratoire Mix by Laurent Garnier (on React Music) as he uses it in
that mix.

Certain people have been playa hating Derrick for years - a lot of it is
jealousy or personality conflicts which are part of life and part of the
artistic world. There are always at least two sides to every story and it
would be so easy for him to tell his side to the media, but he doesn't and
there is a very simple reason why - he keeps his dignity, something he is
NEVER given credit for. He also commands incredible loyalty from others and
that speaks much, much louder.

Peace

Just before I got to temple I was talking to another prominent detroit DJ
about Derrick. Although he get's a lot of props, evidently there are others
who wonder why. (What have you done for me lately) Is there perhaps an
Anti-DMay faction of detroit DJ's? Or is T. Barnett just venting 'cause he
knows his reputation is on the wayne?
