X-101-2-3

2000-10-26 Thread Sir Ethilrist
according to an interview with jeff mills from 1998:

"X-101 were mike, rob and me, while X-102 and 103 were mainly done by rob
and me."

(translated by myself from german text)

BTW, it's interesting to see that mills talks in a very "mundane" way while
being interviewed, in contrast to the discussed linernotes (SIGH!)

For those of you that will be in detroit this weekend. Stop by recordtime and
pick up a limited edition "I Love Techno" bumpersticker (our information is
printed on the back). We don't have many left so grab one if you can. There
perfect for you flightcase, turntables, or car. But the stickers have been
known to have been stolen off of people's cars, so you might want to stick them
someplace else.

The track you mean with the saxophone is probably Why fall . It has two
versions ...one with saxophone and a non sax mix :)
It is pretty hard too find.
Funny thing is that there just came a strange kind of cover version of this
track called "White falls" . To keep it 313 related the following info :)
The guy who made this cover version (or rmx) was the second European artist
(after Speedy J) who released on a Detroit techno label (Malego records)
He has a whole bunch of names he uses and even more labels... and this mix
of the Lil 'louis track he made 5 years ago is really a peak time record...
I think it's worth finding it (especially when you don't have the original)

what ever happened to...

2000-10-26 Thread d . pinter
I was curious to find out if anyone on the list knows what ever happened to DJ
Overdose. I have two tapes from him that I got in Detroit around 1990. Both are
great three turntable mixes (lots of cutting and doubling up records) that have
a lot of detroit and chicago tracks on them. I know he opened a small store in
Cass corridor at one point but he seems to have disappeared. Anyone know any
further information?

I have to agree that some of it is a bit laboured - esp. some of the stuff
on the axis site which i looked at recently. I didn't need notes to
understand waveform 3, say.

On the other hand he's expressing himself and he's asking questions which is
the important thing I guess.

I have some jazz cds which have some laboured liner notes too - some of
which are by the artist..

I haven't heard much since From the 21st. [EMAIL PROTECTED] on that is pretty

Ian Pooley - Transmat

2000-10-26 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Ian Pooley's new album, Since Then, is very nice - it has a warm Brazilian
influence, a handful of vocal tracks. It's possibly his most full realised
LP yet. Ian also has an EP on the way via Transmat under his Quiet Daze
alias. He says it should hopefully come out this Autumn (that's the Northern
Hemisphere). It will have four tracks. You will know his November from the
Time: Space compilation.

Some info:
Pooley's contract with V2 allows him to distribute material through other
channels providing he uses an alias. Currently Ian is hoping to finally
issue his Quiet Daze EP, Viewing The Decade, on Derrick May's Detroit-based
Transmat label. Pooley says that the EP is completely different to Since
Then, signalling both a return to his roots and his own take on the classic
Detroit sound.

I started a gear list about 4 or 5 years ago called 'movable-parts' which i
subsequently left a while back.

control.. try sending some mail to that address with 'subscribe' in the main
part of your msg..

hope that helps

What cat no is this one and when it was released? Thanks
and if jeff mills is x-103 then x-102 is mad mike i suppose ?

thanks
robert

I would say x-103/x-102 is not an artist but a particular space in time, I'd
suggest that both would be the orgi. UR?

in the past year i think 75% of music talk on this list has been about
either jeff mills or jaguar. not to diss either one, but - puh-leez,
my puny attention span can't handle all this, how about a change of
topic..

what label was shakes "piece of ice" track released on (didnt keith tucker
have a hand in that?). and who wants to sell me their double? :)

(OT) Layla/MIDI/gear question

2000-10-26 Thread Hugh G. Blaze
Anyone that has a Layla/Gina/Darla soundcard by echo please (please!) hit me
back. I need someone with some experience to help me out with a problem I'm
having with mine.
Also, what are some good "gear" lists. I've heard of the creators, what's
that one all about? How does one subscribe?

Thank you, have a good day.

Neither Mills nor Jaguar

2000-10-26 Thread Dave Clark
Picked up the Detroit Escalator Co.'s Peacefrog album
this week. I was already sympathetic to it due to the
excellent appearance on the transmat time:space
compilation, but after putting the needle on side A of
the album and letting it spin for all of 15 seconds I
was hooked. Great stuff, really deep soulful mellow
stuff.

Also picked up some funky electro from 'Mr Velcro
Fastener' - you can't listen to serious music all the
time and these crazy electro beats and some guy
talking about DSP and UMB had me laughing. A lot of
people say electro is cheesy but that's the point, I
say.
