Laurent Garnier on The New Music

2001-05-06 Thread Carissa Tintinalli
I just watched a really interesting interview with Laurent Garnier on The
New Music, a show on Toronto's City TV.

One of the questions he was asked was how he felt about artistic rights and
the internet. He said that sometimes (he) feels raped and describes how
there are dj mixes of his online that he himself does not even own copies
of, and how it's somewhat unfair that people have access to stuff that he's
spent years on (I'm paraphrasing a bit here, I couldn't find a tape to
record it :( )

The transcripts aren't on the website yet, but should be soon:
http://www.thenewmusic.net/

For the Canadian 313ers, the show is also on again this Monday at 9:30pm, on
Muchmusic, although I'm not sure if it's this episode or a new one.

2001-05-06 Thread scott mcgill
I saw Orlando a few years back at House of God alongside Surgeon. I much
preferred what he was doing.
The roof went off when he dropped the 2 copies of Flash; the rest of the
night's music was in a similar vein. I also remember thinking what a
terrific idea it was when I saw Voorn leaving, there was Surgeon trundling
behind struggling with his record box, whilst Voorn just strolled along with
his on a sort of personal airport trolley. Where can I get one?

Go see.

but I think he won the Dutch dmc contest but i'm not sure about that

As a dj he's cool
he spins very 'divers' and likes to experiment with differents styles
he's not that tight though
but give him a lot of love when asks for it ;-)

When I heard solid sessions the first time I didn't know what I was hearing
!
so much energy and nice accents

my fav of this day
Surgeon - Death before Surrender (very divers track !!)
squarepusher - my red hot car
K Hand - noon (midnight mix)
Nick straker band - a little bit of Jazz (and yes this is the disco track
from shake recloose)

you just got to love mp3's !

At an airport. I got one at Luton airport, and it helped me avoid a view
bruises. Forget boxes though, they hurt, vicious things. Get one of those
big bags, they are much easier to carry and you can walk on the plane with
them so the airline won't lose your records. Bonus.

Heard Voorn with Rush a couple of years back. Nice set, pretty house
orientated, but nothing amazing.

vogel has a strange, moody reputation in the UK. i remember he
  pissed
off
dave clarke and others in the brighton scene for some reason,

That's not exactly a tall order. Just about everyone's pissed
Dave
Clarke
off at some point (including me).
  He's just a miserable bastard...

Interesting side note: a former field reporter for the American Nazi party was
none other than Philip Johnson, the architect.

I don't know about the Bush's, but it wouldn't surprise me. Prior to the

Germany was a mess prior to the nasty H-man, and when he rose, everything

I'm tired and lazy right now (after all, I am an American!!;-])) MY
grandmother tells me how, prior to the war, allot of people in our area
Cleveland Ohio, USA, actually flew Nazi flags, or had pictures of big bad H

people became aware of the atrocities, and even then, it was very hush

There was even a large American Nazi party...

The 30's was a very interesting era, and the social thoughts at the time are
 very different than now.

I will second that for Claude Young:
After his show here (Mpls) he came off the stage (the venue was a rock
n'roll club) and hugged every person waiting to talk with him (about 7 or 8
people) and then he stood there and talked for several minutes about the
tour he was on. He was all smiles too!

Mr C once gave a friend of mine a smokable gift too when he found out it
was

his birthday.
Claude Young wins my generosity league though. Besides being top fella, he
is also well generous. Everytime he used to come to Voodoo in Liverpool he
always stuck some cash behind the bar to get people a drink or two.
