[313] Win tickets to Derrick May...

2001-07-04 Thread Gerald
I'll be giving away a pair of tickets to see Derrick May this friday at
the Mockingbird, in Toronto.

All you have to do is tune into Equinox on http://www.1Groove.com
Wednesday nite between 10pm-12am EST, and be ready to call in. The
number is toll free from anywhere in North America - 1-877-GROOVE1
(476-6831).

For further details on the event go to: http://www.pointblanknetwork.com

P.S. Don't forget to brush up on your Derrick May trivia, as you'll have
to answer a skill testing question!

Cheers!

Re: [313] this sample and ...

2001-07-04 Thread .: Caltrop :.

hmmm..

what do you guys feel about this sampling issue.
and do you know if carl craig or jeff mills (also theo parrish, moodymann)
got away with it for not

giving credit to the original sample suppliers.

what is the chance to get sued when you release your sample collage on an
independent label?

 juliette morgan wrote months ago:

To all those who were questioning the origin of the sample included in
BFC-Galaxy, and Mills' In the bush; It is in fact Liaisons
Dangereuses,

 however NOT Los Ninos

The sample is from Peut Etre Pais.

What's the original track that Mills' Black is the number samples?
 (the distinct bassline)
I've heard the original on many WBMX-mixes, and there's couple new
releases
that use the sample also. It's some 80's industrial/synth group for
sure...

It's a song called Remember by Gino Soccio. Great f**king track! And no,
it's

not an Industrial/Synth-Pop thing. Gino Soccio was part of what would be
considered Italo Disco. However, he actually hailed from Quebec. I think
it's

from around '81 or '82.

The Liasons track that Mills sampled has been widely used. Carl used it on
BFC,
but also more subtly on a 69 track whose name escapes me at the moment...
maybe

even on more tracks that he's done? Anyway, let me just say that Carl is a
samplaholic! Most of his tracks are a whose who of classic samples, with a
few

exceptions such as Landcruising.

Dare I say he's a thief... ? And a good one at that ;)

i took a listen the other day too, and i must say it's absolutely
 brilliant
too, but the lack of danceable tracks and the really low BPM of most of
 the
tracks (i'd say less than 110 bpm) made me pass... lots of beatless
 vocal

DYING to be laid over a house beat.

Wow! That about sums up the live NYC Mathew Herbert @ joe's pub on
 friday.
He had 3 microphones setup, one through an echo and the other two
 through
compressors. He started of by making a pop using his mouth into one
 of
 the
microphones then walked back to his akai (old, very old) sampler and
   started
looping it on the fly. But wait that didn't sound just right, so he
 went
   up
and did it again, this time got it right, sampled it , looped it,
 then
triggered his sequencer. All the time using his hand over an alesis

 there
 and
   a

 his

Shame K7! didn't let a lot of people in and there were a lot of
   disappointed

I heard he went over to openair afterwards and did a, dare i say, a

Re: [313] Chosen Brothers: March Down Babylon

2001-07-04 Thread William VanLoo
Hey, anyone know how rare exactly a white label of this would be? On Rhythm
  Sound if I remember correctly.

According to Ines Ackermann, who always has the inside scoop on our
friends in Berlin, it was limited to 500 copies.

I ordered mine directly from Hardwax, but later heard Record Time in
Detroit got some too. You could check with both of those shops, Lance,
if you're looking for a copy.

Cheers,

Bill
