yes the tour was canceled. It was canceled sometime ago actually. Claude was suppposed to play in PGh on July 3 (Mike dearborn played instead). The tour was canceled becuae the promotion company responsible for booking his tour didn't meet the required dedlines. So Claude accepted dates in europe and asia. I caught Richie here in SF doing a DJ set over the weekend and he totally destroyed the place. Was among the best performances I've seen in a long time. He played very little of the DE9 style tribal techno, more of a tech-house + underground techno sound. Apart from the fine MicroHouse article, the new Wire also carries an interesting overview of how Fritz Lang's Metropolis has influenced electronic musicmakers over the decades. Detroit's ongoing legacy comes in for some provocative analysis. References appear to Kenny Larkin, and (in connection to their architectural preoccupations), Jeff Mills and Neil Olivierra. Elsewhere (in the reviews section), other less charitably- minded critics declare Detroit techno obsolete for the nth time, but let's not go into that now... Re. Ian O'Brien.
