i have a nice denard henry release called phuturehaus on intrinsic design
(distributed by serotonin) from 1997. it has a bit of a chicago sound to it,
fairly mimimal.
i was in sonic groove one day and reade was playing a great track. when i
asked for a copy denard henry stepped out from a corner and whipped out a
copy from under his arm.

Denard is an old-school underground DJ from NYC. For the past few years he's
resided in Germany, near Berlin I think.

He hasn't put much out lately, besides the Lotus Project collab with Reade
 Truth on Path Records.

 Check these:

P.S.- His age is NOT 24!

Does anyone know who Denard henry is or where he's from? I've got the whole
Cipher catalog (his own label I think??) which has mostly excellent stuff
but I've never seen his name anywhere else...Does anyone know of any other
releases/tour dates/websites etc. where I can track down some more info on
 the man..??

what I remember is the music broke down and this vocal, kinda like a speach
came in, and rich made the last words spoken in to a sort of synth line.

if this is the track I can not tell from this sample but it did not sound
like this in my mind, it seemed like it sould have been faster, maybe it
kicks in later. I remember the track being like 15 mins long played around
 11 am.

 and on a different note.
anyone read the blurb in the metro times about the control party?

it said the that rich played a 17 hour set and then collapsed?
it also said rich had a heart attack in NY?

I just thought the control party lasted 14 hours so how could rich play for
17? when I know he stopped playing around noon, so when did he go on sat?

[313] Transmat Re: [313] stephen again

2002-06-04 Thread Mike Taylor

Hey Martin,

This is the second 12 in a three part series. I have had the white label of
it for awhile, but it has not fit where the show has been going lately. It
is very Stephen Brown'y, if you liked the last one you will like this one,
and if you didn't...

I also have a couple cdr's that were supposed to be the pre-release version
of Time:Space 2. After I premiered several tracks on the show, I got an
email from [EMAIL PROTECTED] saying that they want to play around with the
tracklisting a bit more and asking if I could hold off on playing any of the
material. It is a shame because there is definitely noteworthy material on
those cd's. The Rodenbush and San Soleil tracks immediately come to mind.
For the tracklisting as it was to be as of a month ago, check my playlist
at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/currentelectronic/message/14

You can get some ideas as to what is going on in their camp from the
tracklisting. As always, Transmat will do what it wants when it wants, so
you will just have to wait and see. I remember back when the first
Time:Space comp came out back in 99 and there was a great deal of talk about
Transmat releasing full albums from all the artists involved. Obviously,
other than Deepartures In Time, none of the artists involved released albums
after that comp.

Keep your fingers crossed. I know that I am not the only person who would
like to see a lot more material come out of the Transmat camp. From what I
have been told, they have arranged a better distro deal on the continent,
and that there should be more material on the way as a result of that deal.
I hope they get it all sorted out, because Transmat has some great music
that needs to see the light of day.

Take care,
mt

Syne Language 12 (Hard Sync HS001)

daylight he now has asked Rush Hour to sell the last few in existence.
Please do not miss this classic, obscure piece of fine Detroit minded
techno. Four tracks, ranging from more rhythm based techno in Kenny Larkin
style to the more string laden stuff that really works the mind. Limited
copies available only. Expect more Convextion tracks on Down Low Music soon.

[313] Does anyone compare to Hawtin?

2002-06-04 Thread Tosh Cooey
Ok, there's always a lively discussion on the merits of Hawtin.

Everyone has their opinion, and everyone has their tastes.

But there are some things in the world which can't be argued. If you
accept that pop music is not just about the music but also about the
contextual packaging of the music, then you must accept that Madonna is
one of the greatest pop artists, regardless if you enjoy her music or
not, she demands (literally and figuratively) respect for what she is
able to accomplish.

Same thing with Hawtin, in a context.

http://m-nus.com/

That was control II.

The context is how/why you came to love electronic music, specifically
techno.

If you came to this music as someone inspired by the futuristic sounds,
the ideas of progress and pushing forward embedded in the music, the
liberating effect of controlling the entire production and performance
experience, and because you had a great time at these new kinds of
parties, then it is impossible to not respect Hawtin for what he's done.

In that picture you see people obviously having a good time, but it's
what you don't see that separates control II from every other yawn
party out there:

quadrophonic sound
pyrotechnics
finalscratch
recycle (and who knows what else)
the foot pedal MIDI controller
lost track of what FX unit he's using these days
custom track edits (playable via FS)
what am I forgetting?

All of it controlled by Hawtin. Not Rich dancing around like a muppet
on stage while a host of behind-the-scenes helpers run the show, no
entirely controlled by Rich.

Maybe you don't like him as a person, maybe he spit on your grandfather,
maybe he's white, maybe he's not American, maybe you like only people
with hair, and/or maybe he slept with your mom, but you have to respect
what he can accomplish within the context of your reason for liking
techno music.

I'm not entirely sure why I write this, probably because looking at that
picture and knowing about the production which went into that party,
it's pretty bloody inspiring to know that this techno thing will keep
pushing the envelope, technologically and artistically.

 Tosh

I didn't, I guess it's a matter of opinion... but I do know that Eminem is
one very sarcastic character and often says the opposite of what he really
feels.

Hmm I hope none of you thought Eminem was serious... he's just

the tone of what he's saying.

huh?

I know he wasn't dead serious, but I took it as a dig on Moby, *and* our
beloved genre.
