I haven't been a consistent follower of this label.. they've been around for a
really long time though (in record label years, that is).

But one recent release I really like is the Jerry The Cat: Mating Ritual 12",
flip to the "Theo Parrish beat freak remix" -- which I THINK if you listen
closely you can hear a sound of one of the early Elevate records get sampled,
like a hissing cymbal that comes in an out. It's pretty cool... Maybe I'm
crazy but if anyone else has both of these records do check it out.

I think the source track might be Subterranean?.. it was one of those
un-credited Elevate records with the blue labels, not Theo's "Baby Steps" one
w/ the red label.. (I always understood the blue ones to be Dan Bell in deep
house mode, and they are most excellent cuts)

Also (trivia) Jerry The Cat did percussion on "You Forgot" track on Sound
Signature... and apparently has worked with a mess of Detroit producers.

Check it out.

Peace

This sample is on a Shake record on 7th City... I believe it's SCD #8 (Tracks
for My Father) ? Incredible track on an equally stunning EP. I think the
sample is on the track "Travelers" or perhaps "Roaming" ? All in all this
record is Shake in top form, essential.

I always figured it was the intro to the Shake track 'Detroit State of

(313) Sketch Show

2002-10-09 Thread Mxyzptlk
For any YMO fans, the new Hosono/Takahasi CD (Sketch Show : Audio Sponge)
is pretty close to late period (i.e., "Naughty Boys") YMO as you can get.
Very poppy in places, but nice electronics throughout. Rumor has it that
Sakamoto had some 'shadowy' involvement as well, but I can't confirm it -
except to say that it REALLY sounds like YMO (more so than Technodon, which
had more connections with Techno per se). I think it's on Dasiyworld and
may be an exclusive-to-Japan release. I know I got mine from Comfort (about
36 usd w/shipping).

(313) Electro and booty in London

2002-10-09 Thread Brendan Nelson
Just to let 313'ers know that there's yet another booty/electro night
happening in Hackney soon!

Ed DMX is headlining the affair, with support from Cutlass Supreme, myself,
and DJ Guy, so there's a chance to see someone you've *actually heard of* as
well as some 313 members behind the decks...

The night is happening on Friday 18th October at District, 19 Amhurst Road -
get the Silverlink to Hackney Central or go from Liverpool Street to Hackney
Downs, as the venue is practically next door to Central and just round the
corner from Downs.

Entry is free before 10pm and only a few quid afterwards!

More details at:

and a map at:

Another film with Miles on the soundtrack worth checking is "Ascenseur pour
l'échafaud" ( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0051378 ), I saw in this documentary
on bbc2 a few years ago that he and his band sat in a cinema watching the
film and improvised the whole way through, this was recorded and used as the
sound track.

Fair point - i just meant contrasting in that Bitches Brew is a lot more
frantic than In a Silent Way.
Must agree with whoever recommended the Complete Silent Way sessions - a
really good insight into his work of that period.
